DynamicAccess Software
DMI 2.0
Boot ROM Socket
See Description Regarding Functionality of This Feature
DynamicAccess Software
Is advanced network software that improves performance, management and network control.
DynamicAccess software adds intelligence to the NIC by integrating the following features:
Distributed RMON [ dRMON ]
Enables full RMON reporting on all network segments, including switched networks, without the need to place dedicated RMON probes throughout the network
Traffic Prioritization
Ensures that business-critical and delay-sensitive traffic ( such as multimedia applications ) has priority over normal data
Fast IP
Eliminates router bottlenecks and improves performance in switched networks
Efficient Multicast Control
Prevents flooding of switched networks by multicast applications such as video training, stock quotes, or online news feeds
DMI 2.0
Desktop Management Interface 2.0 enables managed PCs and net PCs to report details about themselves and their peripheral devices across the network to a DMI 2.0 management application.
A network administrator can then use this information to assist in remotely managing and configuring PC clients and servers.
Boot ROM Socket
The 10/100 PCI Network Interface Cards User Guide for this model indicates it does not have a Boot ROM Socket and MBA boot ROMs are only available for 3C905B-TX, 3C905B-COMBO, & 3C905B-FX(SC) NICs.
Even though there is a Boot ROM Socket [ See Pictures ], functionality of an MBA boot ROM, if acquired, can not be guaranteed.
The following description of an MBA boot ROM is merely informational and, again, does not guarantee functionality of that particular feature.
The MBA boot ROM adds management capabilities to the NIC by enabling the PC to boot from a server, rather than from its local drive.
This preboot support allows you to use management applications to perform tasks such as:
Installing & Configure a new PC that has never been connected to the network
Upgrading Software
Performing disaster recovery tasks
Testing
The testing setup consisisted of a fairly modern motherboard [ BIOSTAR TA75M ] and an old Pace Model 4111N-031 DSL Modem capable of dishing out DHCP addresses.
The NIC was seated in the motherboard and connected to the DSL Modem via an ethernet cable.
Initially tested with a fully patched Windows 10 Operating System
which recognized the item as a NIC, but as an Unknown Ethernet Controller.
No suitable Windows 10 drivers could be located --
This item is ** NOT PLUG & PLAY COMPATIBLE ** with current Windows Operating Systems
-- Booted the computer with a fully patched Ubuntu 20.10 [ Groovy Gorilla ].
NIC was recognized and fully fuctional without any further action.
A Screenshot was taken from the management page of the DSL Modem showing
(a)
the NIC was capable of both acquiring a DHCP address from the modem and was able to acess the DSL modem via ethernet to display the page and
(b)
the IP address and MAC address of the NIC [ MAC address matches the one pictured of the physical item ].
Another screenshot was taken from the Nutty package showing details about the NIC.
Yet another screenshot was taken from the System Profiler showing (more or less) the same details reported by Nutty.
