Description
A PAIR OF COLORFUL VERAWOOD BOWLS TURNED IN 1986 BY MYSELFVERAWOOD IS FROM CENTRAL AMERICA AND NORTHERN SOUTH AMERICA; IT IS EXTREMELY DENSE AND HARD (ON PAR WITH LIGNUM VITAE) AND IS ON THE ENDANGERED SPECIES LIST
THE LARGE BOWL, 11-3/8" IN DIAMETER AND 2" HIGH, APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN TURNED FROM A QUARTER-SAWN BOWL BLANK GIVEN THE VIBRANT NATURE OF THE GRAIN CAUSED BY ITS 'FEATHERED'APPEARANCE; THE NEARLY STRAIGHT GRAIN LOOKS ALMOST IRIDESCENT; THE BOWL HAD A GREENISH HUE TO IT WHEN INITIALLY TURNED BUT IT HAS AGED TO MORE OF A BROWNISH COLOR; THE BOWL IS STAMPED 'PLH 86' INDICATING THAT I TURNED THE BOWL IN 1986; BEAUTIFUL COLOR AND GRAIN STRUCTURE
THE SMALLER BOWL MAY ALSO HAVE BEEN TURNED FROM QUARTERSAWN STOCK BUT THE GRAIN STRUCTURE IS NOT AS VIBRANT AND COLORFUL AS THAT IN THE LARGER BOWL AND IT ALSO IS DARKER BROWN IN COLOR; THIS BOWL MEASURES 6" IN DIAMETER AND 2" HIGH; IT IS NOT STAMPED BUT IT WAS TURNED AT THE SAME TIME AS THE LARGE BOWL
GREAT EXAMPLES OF A VERY INTERESTING BUT UNCOMMON EXOTIC WOOD
THESE WILL BE SHIPPED BY USPS PRIORITY MAIL IN A 12 x 12 x 9 INCH BOX WEIGHING APPROXIMATELY 5-6 LBS. THANKS FOR LOOKING!
