Description
ANCIENT MULTI IMAGE PECTROGLYPH, PICTOGRAPH, STORY STONE FROM THE SOUTH DAKOTA BADLANDS. Three drawings have been provided to assist in viewing the various carvings, chippings and scratches that were used to transform an ordinary stone that already was shaped in a natural condition that provided the artist with the origin and beginnings of the finished effigy. Many people can see no images at all while others can see different versions and still others can see images not noticed by others. This stone was found in close proximity to the CORAL BUFFALO EFFIGY I am also selling on ebay. As noted it is ONE OF A KIND AND NOTHING ELSE TO COMPARE IT TO, TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE. These stones can be found in large numbers if the finder can recognize the images and not be compelled to cast them aside as another leaverite stone. Many of these stones had both ceremonial, religious, and practical uses, for instance a chipped edge could be used for scraping, smoothe edges for rubbing or burnishing, etc. Many images represent the animals necessary for life or indicated their inherited or chosen name, ie; SITTING BULL, ONE BULL, CONQUERING BEAR. This particular stone also has a large female vulva chipped into the Buffalo image. The female origin of life is found frequently in all rock art on this continent and around the world. I have no way to date this carving as the rock itself is millions of years old. Also I can not explain the image of a Bear and a Buffalo on the same stone, I do have another stone with the female vulva inserted within an etched story and hunting scene. Togia might possibly be found on one or both stone faces but would take an expert to recognize it and interpret it. I can furnish the purchaser the exact location where found, the land is private, with permission, probably under new ownership. I do not wish to answer trivial questions of value or whether some coa thinks it is fake. I am the sole owner, finder and custodian of this piece since I discovered and collected it, so a coa is senseless and unwarranted as the ancient people were the artisan and keepers until I picked it up and carried it home. A new owner has the option of papering this piece in any manner that is suitable after purchase. I would solicit opinions of the type of stone that was used and the possible period or culture that it was used or made. I am at the end of my collecting era and have no one to pass these on to. Please note the photo's carefully, email questions , if you are a serious buyer. Thanks for your consideration.
