    Description

An authentic and beautiful suit of samurai from the middle to late Edo period (before 1868). It has nice mempo (face mask) with a rare fixed nose and a nice momonari kabuto (peach shaped helmet) with a mount for a strong / large maedate. I've also included a horned demon maedate (forehead ornament) which is not so old, but hand carved from wood (not resin) and fits the helmet mount.
The suit is in excellent condition apart from the haedate (thigh pads) where the lacquer is chipped off in places and is fragile, which is often the case with things of this age. The are also some spots of damage on the plates of the skirt (see photos). The fabric of the arms, legs and thighs matches perfectly, but shoulder pads may have been added later as they are in a different style. Overall it has a nice presence and displays well.
It also comes with a rare commander's stick made from yak hair, used for signaling troops. It will be carefully packaged and mailed in its hitsu (an antique armor box).
