Description
BISON ANTIQUUS SKULL CAP Likely Pleistocene Ice Age Fossil. Extinct Bison species, not the modern day bison. This piece of natural history was recovered from a South Dakota waterway. Likely from a bison that died many thousands of years ago when captured by ancient flood waters. The condition of this piece is (((heavily weathered)) but it is preserved and hardened with Paraloid B- 72 and has a natural mottled patina. The spread of the horn cores is approximately 28 inches from "tip to tip". Both horn corns are broken as seen in the photos, so it's fair to estimate that the width of this skull would have easily measured at least in the low 30"s when the horn cores were fully intact.
