    Description

    Up for sale is this exquisite example of a Giant Ground Sloth Claw. The large specimen is from the Mylodon which was a genus of elephant-sized ground sloths endemic to South America, sometimes called the giant ground sloth. Ground sloths were among the various South American animal groups to migrate northwards into North America, where they remained and flourished until the late Pleistocene. Mylodon was a large land mammal  weighing up to 2 tons and measuring up to 3m to 4min length from head to tail.
    They lived from the Early Pliocene through the end of the Pleistocene, which is about 3 millions years ago. Most cite the appearance of an expanding population of human hunters as the cause of its extinction.
    This fossil claw come fully intact with the sheath.
