Home Crafted Wooden Vase Candle Holder Chalice w/ Inlaid Cross Folk Religious

Im not exactly sure what this is.  It might be something one of my dad's church friends gave him, or maybe something he found at a thrift store.  Its interesting and appears home made.  It appears to be a wooden vase or chalice of some kind, with an inlaid wooden cross on one side.  It looks like it was mounted on something, like a bedpost, or some kind of pole in a church maybe for flowers or candles.  Maybe a communion cup?  Or the markings on the bottom may just be part of the manufacturing process.  It has clear finish all over, with some glitter in the finish near the bottom on the outside front. The wood has what could be some scratches or might just be natural cracking in the wood.  Maybe its just someones project from a woodworking class, but the wood is pretty, and could maybe be made into something else if youre into woodworking or hand carving.  It is approx 9 1/4" tall, 4" across the top on the outside.  3" across the top opening measured from the inside, and 6" deep.  Base is 3" x 4 3/4".
