kabuto Saotome Iechika Iron Rust 32-ken Striped Helmet Armor from Japan vintageDescription
Rusted Iron Helmet with 32 Stripes
Inscribed by Saotome Iechika
◆Saotome Iechika
Saotome Iechika was an armorer of the Saotome lineage who was active from the Momoyama period to the early Edo period, and was highly regarded as a prominent master within the lineage. The Saotome school is one of the most famous armorsmiths along with the Myochin school.
◆ Helmet bowl
This genuine helmet bowl is well into its age, with a slightly concave top and bulging grooves between the veins, making for a beautiful, firm helmet bowl that clearly shows the characteristics of a Saotome maiden.
◆ Face
Although some parts of the face mask have peeled off, it is still dignified, the beard is impressive, and it matches the atmosphere of the helmet perfectly. The workmanship of the face mask is of the highest order, and it is a masterpiece that matches the helmet of Saotome Iechika.
◆ Front flap
The front plate is carved with a Chinese lion, and although it is unclear if it is original, it is the prototype for the helmet front plate of the currently popular Major League Baseball Angels Home Run Helmet Celebration. There is a part missing. Please note that it is not included.
◆Others
This is a masterpiece from the Saotome family, and is on par with the ones on display in museums around the country. The number of pieces remaining is decreasing, so a complete product with the "fukigaeshi" (fukiage), "meboshi" (eye guard) and "menbo" (face guard) in keeping with the era is extremely rare and valuable. It has been in our family for a long time and is a "naive" item. We would like to see it purchased by someone who will cherish and display it. It is a masterpiece that will leave you satisfied.
