    Description

    • Hand made on the lathe, turned from rare and beautiful reclaimed Pacific Yew wood.  Nice little vase with a simple bead at narrowest part. The vase is hollowed out and is about an eighth of an inch thick. Great contrasting heartwood and lighter colored sapwood.
It is 4" tall, and 3 1/2" in diameter.  Weighs 3.5 oz.
    • Sanded to 600 grit, and finished with 4 coats of Danish oil, and buffed to a satin sheen.  It is very smooth, and no sanding scratches or tearout.
    • Yew is one of the slowest growing trees in the Northwest, usually taking 100 years to get just 6 to 8 inches in diameter!  It is a very hard wood even though it is a conifer or "softwood" it is harder than most hardwood trees.
There are so many great things about this tree, like how the bark is used in the treatment of ovarian and breast cancer (Taxol) and the wood has been used for thousands of years for making bows and canoe paddles by the Native Americans.  It is considered the best wood by traditional bowyers, for its strength and elasticity.
