Rare Old Giant Whale Bone Petrified Fossil.
Great set of old bones. Big one measures 14” long and approx 4” in diameter. All 3 pieces are included but obviously largest is the gem and probably fairly rare with its size and weight. Appears in great overall condition considering!! Great for display or collection!!
From eBay member - Say, this is an interesting piece. I'm a retired geologist and collect vertebrate fossils all the time. I've done some research on this one because I'm putting together a collection I'm donating to a museum exhibit on whale evolution, and thought I would try to determine what you have. I am quite certain it is either a juvenile humpback whale radius (lower pectoral fin bone) fragment (2/3rds of original length, which was about 54 cm [21 in]) or a juvenile blue whale lower pectoral fin bone fragment. This interested me because it is an unusual piece from a giant whale juvenile. The adult humpback whale's fin is 4.6 m [15 ft] long. This one would scale out to about 1.9 m (6.2 ft). The shortest bone you have there is a finger bone, probably from the same pectoral fin.
