Danish Ice Hockey Union Stick Lapel Pin From Marty Martino's Collection
- This scarce Danish Hockey Union stick lapel pin measures 3/4" in diameter. The overall height including the stick pin is 2". The pin came from the personal collection of Marty Martino, a skating coach for over 40 years in Colorado Springs. The pin is undated but probably dates back to the late 1970s. We have provided an enlarged image of this pin, as the low resolution of web site graphics doesn't do justice to the beauty and detail of the design. In Memorium - Marty Martino - 1937-2009
Manuel Martins was born on September 4, 1937 in New York. His legal name was Manuel Martins, but everyone in the ice skating world knew him as Marty Martino.
Marty taught figure skating in Colorado for over forty years. In Colorado Springs he taught at the old Broadmoor World Arena, at Sertich Ice Center and at the Ice Arena at Chapel Hills Mall. He also coached in Pueblo, Denver and New York. He trained numerous champions at the regional, sectional and national levels and coached my daughter, Lisa, both in singles and ice dancing. Marty also produced and directed many ice shows and was known for his creative choreography. In addition to teaching skating, Martino was known for his talents as a costume designer and tailor.
Marty died of a sudden heart attack on March 1, 2009. One of his students commented that it was beautiful that a man who never married was always surrounded by a room full of women who loved him.
