I grew up going to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. At some point in the 1980's, The Met contracted George Nakashima studio to build benches for the Sackler/Japanese Art Wing on the second floor. I had always loved them and wanted to make my own version.
The seat is 12" wide, the legs taper from 12" on the bottom to 14" at the top where the base meets the seat. The bottom and top rails are shaped and bevel cut at the ends.
Great for an entry hall, additional seating for company, use in a gallery setting, can be used as a table, etc.
This can be made in other sizes, other materials and include some details like bowties, different species used together, etc.
Turn around time for most of my work is 6 to 12 weeks. Price quoted is for a bench up to 40". Other sizes can be ordered.
